Finding mold on your roof is a hassle that needs to be dealt with.  Although not considered dangerous, it is unsightly and only causes more damage.  For smaller more, manageable patches, consider cleaning it up yourself.

Start by spraying the shingles with a mold spray.  If you have any plants or garden directly underneath the roof, it may be a good idea to cover them with a plastic tarp to prevent them from coming in contact with the chemical cleaner.  After spraying the solution on the shingles, let it sit for about 15 minutes.  Follow by rinsing with a water hose.  Do not use a pressure washer, as it will damage the shingles.  Allow the area to dry, and then spray once more to ensure that you caught it all.
